Guns N’ Roses- Amy Hopkins

Updated: Apr 27, 2020

My favourite band is Guns N’ Roses. This rock band formed in Los Angeles in 1985, childhood friends, lead singer Axl Rose and guitarist Izzy Stradlin formed the band after an altercation between Axl Rose and the pairs former band’s manager. After Axl was fired by the manager, the pair created Guns N’ Roses.

The band’s debut album “Appetite for destruction” managed to reach number 1 on the Billboard 200 a year after it’s initial release in 1987. The album birthed classic anthems such as “Welcome to the jungle” and “Sweet child of mine”.

Over the course of their career, the group gained the title of “The most dangerous band in the world”. This was a result of reckless and immature behaviour from lead singer Axl Rose and the outspoken lyrics written by the band.

I love Guns N’ Roses because their music is timeless and the band has such an alluring personality. From multiple stories depicting the trouble they got up to in the 80's and the memories they created (such as member Slash witnessing friend Nikki Sixx overdose and die only to be revived later in the night.)

Their music can convey so many emotions to the listeners with soft ballads like “Patience” creating a calm and relaxed atmosphere to head bangers like “Paradise city” and “My Michelle”. The band always stuck to their guns (pun totally intended) throughout the three decade long career and have inspired hundreds of bands such as Green Day contribute their musical talent and express their creativity through what they love.

I love the way Axl Rose didn’t care and lived his life how he wanted, despite the horrific childhood he suffered, he made himself a star and helped staple Guns N’ Roses in The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
